A slightly puzzling mark inasfar as a moon and crown is supposed to be accompanied by a numeric fineness (i.e. 800, 875, etc.). Is the long first number in the same script as the name? What is the size of the bowl? Any details may help finding an answer some day. Thanks!

Sorry, I forgot to mention there is the number 800 between the crown and the letters w'b.Therefore I assumed it is silver.
The number 14304 is not in size and script as the name.
The bowl is 13.5 x 10 inches. oval with 4 daffodiles on the rims. two can be used as handles. It looks like a bread basket.
The mark "joh.chr.wich' nurenberg" is in a kind of gothic font and a bit smaller than the hallmark.
Thank you for your help.

Thanks for the details. Sounds like a nice piece, but unfortunately the only thing I could find is a simple mention of the name without even tombstone data. I will add the name to my 'look for' list and if I ever run accross something, it will be posted here.

Johann Christian Wich was a pretty important German Art Nouveau silversmith around 1900, from what I recall. I will try to find him in my Art nouveau book.

The company did indeed produce important works. This is a model of Kaiser Wilhelm's castle at Nürnberg, dated 1901:

It now belongs to the city of Bayern. The company also produced this bowl:

it was designed by Friedrich Adler c.1911-1913 at design masterclasses held at the Bayern Design Museum, and is now at the Germanisches National Museum.
