Scott...I am a newbie when it comes to silver...There are always bag lots at my local auction but I shy away due to a lack of knowledge but I suspect there is a profit to be made....I was going by the G...I think, after further esearch last night, this may be Dutch?

Is the above is the same lion mark? If it is than it is the Netherlands mark for silver of the 2nd standard = 833 fineness.

YES...Is there anyway to tell the age? Is 833 desirable and considered sterling silver?

The R10 is the makers mark.
The fancy "G" is the date mark. We really need to see a close up of the letter. It is the typeface and the letter together that indicates date.
The head is the office assay of mark. If you can make out the leter on the hat then we might be able to identify the assay office city.

  • R10 = S. T. Reitsma (1859/1892)
  • The "G" kind of looks like it is 1898 but it could also be 1891 or something else.
