Hello,

I've been looking everywhere on the net for these markings.

I own this silver platter and it's about 13 inches wide. The markings are pictured below along with a topside view of the platter.

  • The first marking is probably a maker's mark of lowercase dd in a square.
  • The second is a man's head facing left in an oval.
  • The third is a running ram in a rectangular box.
  • Last marking is a crown in a square with rounded edges.

If anyone has seen markings like these, I'd love to hear about where this piece came from. I don't really need maker and date, just a rough idea of country of origin.

I bought the item in Branson, MO.

I live in St.Louis, I think I sold that plate some years ago. I believe it is plated. I never found the marks, and decided they were probably fantasy marks.

I used my sterling tester on the bottom of the plate last night and after 3 tests the solution turned green. It's silver on copper. I guess the marks are fantasy. I still think the item is foriegn. It may not be. Now it's on the kitchen table with oranges and apples, looks nice.

Thanks for responding.
