I was wondering if anyone has any of the provincial mark books, I am missing. This is a wine taster with a first coq provincial mark. Can anyone tell the maker? I don’t have a complete list of the numbers for the different regions for this period. If anyone does I would love a copy. It is stamped “François Bidet M Dechavagne”.

The first number in the assay mark looks like a 9. Unfortunately, the mark seems too worn to determine the second number. According to the list for the years 1798-1809, the assay office could be in the following departments (city in brackets):
  • Somme 90(Amiens)
  • Tarn 91 (Albi)
  • Var 92 (Toulon)
  • Vaucluse 93 (Avignon)
  • Vendee 94 (Fontenay)
  • Vienne 95 (Poitiers)
  • Haute Vienne 96 (Limoges)
  • Vosges 97 (Epinal)
  • Yonne 98 (Auxerre).
As this list covers a lot of geography, knowing the maker would narrow it down. Alas, I can't help you there.

Good luck!

Could you tell me the reference for the list, or if it is very obscure could you send me a scan? For some reason I don't seem to have it.
