This interesting silver & crystal box is only 3/4" in diameter. I have not been able to figure out its origin, since it is only marked with what appears to be "JA" in a box, although the mark is partial. Except for "XXXXX" on the interiors of the lid and base, there are no other markings. I am not even sure what this box would have been used for. Any thoughts about origin and use?

Hello Paul! I don't know the origin of your box, but I would like to venture 2 guesses on its possible use. 1. A patch box. 2. For a set of tiny rosary beads.
Thanks for listening. Jersey

Never seen a patch box made of crystal, and the Rosary sounds a bit small, I would bet on Pill but could be Snuff... Hum

My guess is that this was once part of a larger ensamble. That the box had the abreviated maker's mark JA, while the larger bits and pieces had a more fully developed mark. Perhaps this started out as part of a desk set or vanity set.
