I recently purchased some Christofle silver (12 piece place setting) on Ebay. I'm not sure if it's silver or silver plated ... I didn't buy it for any other reason than I liked it and want to use it! The markings on the back say: 150I and have the C crown logo as well. Can anyone tell me what the 150I stands for? Thanks so much ... I tried to google it, and found your website. Really cool!

This is silverplated. '150' indicates the amount of silver deposited. Specifically, '150' is the "premium" line offered by a number of European makers in recent years. I don't know what the 'I' might stand for.
Enjoy it!

The I stands for the thickness of the silver plating. Since 1983 French silverplated items must have a square maker’s mark with either the number I or II in the square indicating the minimal average thickness of the silver coating expressed in microns. Items marked I can have silver from 10 to 33 microns thick depending on the type of object, and items marked II can have silver from 6 to 20 microns thick. Thus I is an indicator of the best quality silver plating.

Interesting, Kayvee! I hadn't thought of the I/II code other than inside the square mark but, as you suggest, it's likely that they repeat it with the weight designation.

jraab, I'm curious. Is there another 'I' inside the logo square?

For an earlier discussion of the I/II code see French standard 1983 - Métal Argenté = Silverplated

WOW! Was I excited to see responses! Thank you all so much! I don't know how to take a picture of this ... so I'll try to describe: From left to right on the back of the silverware: First there's a capital C with a crown on top. Next there's a square with 150 I in it ... finally there's another square with a crown in it.
Thanks again ... I really appreciate it.
