I have a set of teaspoons in a Gothic style and have been trying to work out the mark. They seem to be solid silver and the box has French Depose on the hinge. I wonder if anyone recognizes this mark with an Anchor and an A and P each side of it.

Many thanks
Wendy

I'm pretty certain the letters on either side of the anchor are A F. If so, it is by Orfévrerie Armand Frénais, located at 63 Bd. Richard-Lenoir, Paris. They were active in the late 19th century. In 1899 the company produced a 250 page catalogue, so they were obviously a major company - sadly I know nothing more. The few pieces I have seen are generally of high quality silverplate, and in the case of your spoons, if silver, I would expect to see other official marks.

The marking "déposé" is simply French for registered. This means that the design of your box was registered at the French patent office at some point. You find this word on many french objects.
