Is this Tiffany or a fake?

I'm having trouble finding out if this is Tiffany or a fake. And I'm not sure what this precious metal is.

This 144pc (12pc of the same utensil 12 different utensils) gold color flatware piece fits in this old wooden box perfectly. There is a green liner that lines the box. In the top left corner under the lid is a white ribbon marked "Tiffany Jewelry 5/4 S01 Nanatai Sukumvit Road Opp. Nana Hotel Bangkok Thailand with a huge shining diamond on the left side of the words. The ends of the ribbon are fixed in the corner of the lid. But what my questions are:

  • the flatware is not marked
  • not really any pattern, it is plain
  • what metal is this set made of?

* I've cleaned on serving spoon for over two hours and the color is still gold there isn't anymore tarnish on it. The metal is soft. The end of the spoon formed to my fingers where I was holding it at the bottom for a while why polishing it. And each piece is heavier then the normal piece

Please help with any info.

It seems the cutlery was made in Thailand.

There is a jeweler based at 5/6 Soi Nanatai Sukhumvit road, Bangkok. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you anything else.

Would you be able to post a photograph of the pieces?

This set seems to have the characteristics of Thai bronze cutlery/flatware. I'd suggest that the name "Tiffany" is a flattering gesture in the direction of the American jeweller, but with no connection whatsoever, in other words, just a marketing device.

I agree that it appears to be a brass or bronze alloy. They sell these sorts of inexpensive brass/bronze things from small tourist oriented shops in downtown Bangkok. There is a great concentration of such stores on both Silom and Sukhumvit Roads there. They sell them for even less at the giant market/bazaar held every weekend in Chatuchak Park. The practice of using well known brand names on inexpensive locally made copies is widespread in Thailand - there are no effective laws that stop this deceptive practice. For example, you can buy "genuine Rolex watches" for $15, or $10 if you are a good bargainer.

I am often in Bangkok and I can state for sure what you have is Thai Bronze ware and from what I can tell from the picture it is not of the best quality or style offered there. I can however be polished very well with a copper or bronze cleaner and can offer a nice contrast to silver for a casual dinner.

Sorry to add on to my previous post. The Nana hotel is in the heart of one of the "Redlight" districts in Bangkok and its guests are mostly men who visit for that purpose. Other than one of the best tailors in Bangkok being across from Hotel most people would not find it an area for serious shopping or even a visit. The JW Marriot where I stay is in the next SOI.
