Ran across a very interesting silverplated plate today. It is marked WMF Ikora Germany. All the research I have found so far mentions tarnish resistance for other items marked like this. This plate shows evidence of tarnish in a couple of places. Will silver polish ruin the plate?

From all I've seen, Ikora was the art glass line produced by Wurttembergische Metallwanernfabrik. Any metal found in association should be cared for the same as silver plate in general, ie gently and rarely.

Are you sure your piece is complete?

fairly certain... no hinges and nothing to show where a lid would rest. It is marked silverplate... I have registered at one of those sites for the pictures and will try and find time to take a picture and send it along. The shallow bowl or dish has a hammered or brush work look to the top and what look like "graph marks" similair to a lie detector graph on 2 sides. It is really a thing of beauty in a modernistic kind of way. it rests on 2 long bar like legs, that slant out.
