the story goes like this... a long time friend (of mine) who also owns an antique mall purchased a teaset from the estate of an elderly woman from Czechoslovakia quite some years ago. She just sold it to me the other day for a very modest price. She told me she had heard that old Czechoslovakian silver sometimes had no makers marks or any other kind od marks. Would anyone know the true facts about marked or unmarked from that country?

Hi Venue,

Some months back I posted a query on a silver fountain pen made in Czech*. Here's a link to the discussion that ensued.
Silver Fountain Pen

As far as I am aware, yes, there were Czech marks; as to whether silver was invariably hallmarked, I cannot say. There is also a website that contains the marks currently in use in the Czech Republic:
Czech Hallmark PDF

I trust the foregoing is of some little help.

Kind Rgds,

Tom

what an absolutely lovely pen and I am pleased that you use it and don't just put it away. I had a gold one that a customer from Puerto Rico give me. It had been used by the Governor of Puerto Rico to sign contracts with and he (my friend) wanted me to have it. Well I treasured it but was afraid to use it. Now it has gotten lost. So I am glad that you actually use yours.

As for the marks, now that I know what I am looking for I may find something hidden in the decorative work. again thanks so much

Hi Venue,

Yes, it is used. As a lawyer and author, I regularly have cause to "edit" paper..and what better to do it with than with my silver fountain pen. I'll even let you in on a secret..I have filled it with RED ink...you can imagine the contrast with the silver as the reservoir is glass!

Thanks for your kind words and I really do hope my sojourn into Czech silver might have been of some little help to you.

Kind rgds,

Tom TBC
