I would like to get some information on two French retailers. The first is the firm of Ernest Aublanc, based in Paris, 3 faubourg St.-Honoré. Around 1900, he was the main Paris retailer for jewellery and silver by Wolfers Frères. The second was a retailer by the name of Sébin or Sebin, also French, probably from the north. He was active as a Wolfers Frères retailer from 1918-1924. Has anyone come across these names, (stamped marks or printed marks in boxes?) or seen other proofs of their existence?

I don’t have the answer to your query, but do have some suggestions for how to find out:
1) Contact one of the 3-5 appraisal firms that evaluate all the silver that passes through the Drouot auction house in Paris. These firms examine thousands of silver objects a year and some have been in business for 40 plus years.
2) Contact French dealers who specialize in 20th C silver
3) Research old business directories at the National Library of France.
Each one of these suggestions has its costs and inconveniences. If you’re interested in exploring option #1 or #2, I can contact you offline with specific names so as not to violate the Guidelines here. Good luck.

Thanks for your suggestions. Although I think that option 1 and 2 will prove difficult: my experience with dealers is that they tend not keep a lot of information or archives on sold items, except those of great importance (and value). The thing to do would be to search the 'alamancs' (your suggestion nr. 3), you're right, but it is so time consuming, and you have to consult them in Paris, which is nice but expensive. In any case, thak you very much for you suggestions.
