Hello,

I have a silver (or silverplated) teapot marked on the bottom Cailar Bayard. In a diamond shape is the number 10. In an oval shape is number 88. In indented blocks is the number 14. Under the Cailar Bayard name is G 9070. On the teapot itself is written in cursive "Buckingham".

Can anyone tell me anything about this teapot? The handle is unique in that it is two separate pieces to reduce heat transference. The white gasket seems to be a bleached or pale wood.

I need to know if this is silver plate or silver and if there might be any significance to the Buckingham on the side.

Thank you.

I can't see your photos, but the company is from Paris, active late 19th century. Almost certainly French silver plate, given the absence of silver marks. "Buckingham" could well be a hotel or restaurant from the period.
