Greetings from Germany,

I could recently buy a nice old art nouveau jardiniere, with a dedication from a ship line that was going from Hamburg to New York in 1907. It was probably a gift for a retiring captain, or an important guest on board. It is marked with 800 for the main German silver standard of that time, the German Half-moon and Crown mark and then there is either "SH" or "SM" in a circle. I searched my few art nouveau books on silver and did not find anything like this. So any help would be appreciated. The silversmith was likely located in, or near Hamburg. A picture of the mark can be found below. Thanks.

Is has been nearly a year since your last post. Welcome back.

Are you researching this for business purposes?

If yes then please re-review the SSF Guidelines

Yes, sorry, I am researching for business purpose, so delete my topic if you need to and my account as well since I am not planning to stop my business to be able to participate, even though I would love to...I neither have the intention to publicize commercial sites, nor am I not willig to contribute what I can contribute, nor do I need an evaluation on the piece, nor am I planning to quote from SMP, all I wanted to find out is if anyone has a clue if this mark can be found in literature. So if someone who is a dealer can anyhow take part in this community, then let me know how. It is clear that the infromation that I get from helpful people here will be helpful to sell the item sooner or later, which is likely the same thing for a private person. I tried to contribute myself, by replying to some other topics today, but wasnt able to post in other forums.

Thank you for your sensitivity. Dealers/sellers are welcome. The forums are for sharing and are not for pre-sales research. Dealers/sellers are encouraged to share from their private collections. As it regards items that they are selling or plan to sell these subjects shouldn't be posted until after the business has concluded and is no longer in their control.

Can't be 100% certain, but probably Seybold & Hirschhauer, an early to mid- 20th century silverware manufactory in Schwäbisch-Gmünd.
