[01-1692]

Hi,

I have several souvenir spoons collected by my great great uncle. Here is one from Turkey, it is engraved with "Constantinople 1892" on it. Does anyone know about the hallmarks (they are very worn down, and this is the best shot I have).

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks -- Anne

It appears to be the mark of Georg Anton Scheidt, a prominent late 19th-early 20th century Viennese goldsmith known primarily for his enamelwork, particularly compacts & cigarette cases. I think your piece must come from his German workshop, since if it came from Austria it would probably have Austrian export marks; German pieces made exclusively for export (presumably here to Turkey) did not require any special marking.
