This is the mark for a fairly plain but relatively large dinner fork. It has been added to my "silver that is used daily" group, but it would be nice to know something about the maker and country of origin anyway. Many thank in advance.

Maybe the v.ARX is for von Arx?

Exactly so. Jezler is the manufacturer (see my post Swiss Silver, Part 2 for more information) & von Arx the retailer (located in Herzogenbuchsee, canton Bern, as I recall).

If you post a photo of the whole piece, maybe I can identify the pattern.

That's fantastic dragonflywink and blakstone. I will post another image. Just conserving ftp space. Thank you both very much. It is such a treat to see a clear image of my emblem mark with identification.

Here's the image of the entire fork. The front of the handle is ribbed as can be seen and the back is smooth. The length is eight and three eighths inches. The weigh is eighty-four grams. For me, all dinner forks should be this size.

Would this be the pattern Baguette?

Considering the mark and pattern, any estimate on the date of this piece please?

It's now an everyday use item, and it is nice to handle such a fine and heavy piece of silver regularly.

While Swiss silver is a current topic, I'll ask one last time, and then I'll give up. Given the maker's and retailer's mark, if it is possible, would anybody (hint, hint blakstone)mind dating this fork. Realizing that this is a pattern that is probably still manufactured today, if it is not possible, so be it. Thanks in advance either way.

Sorry not to have answered, but I didn’t think I could add much. The pattern is Baguette – Jezler’s Model No. 1 - and it has remained in continous production by Jezler from around 1825 to the present day. Von Arx is still in business, but I have no idea how long they’ve been around. They may not even be the correct von Arx, but they’re the only one I know of.

Definitely 20th century, though. Like I say, not much help.

As always any information coming from you is helpful. Of course, I was hopeful that the fork is at least early nineteenth century, and you have put that thought to rest entirely. It's still a great fork that I use often. Thank you again.
