Swedish buckle from 1834 made by Johan Ludvig Klint in Norrtlje - sweden.

Then it becomes interesting initials SMD where D refers to a woman Dotter daughter in Swedish.

But in that period/place a woman using a belt ? that is questionable. And even more as it is silver.
Used for a belt - my idea. but shoes or hat ornament - any ideas?

Anyhow used/made 175 years ago - we fell the history. It is not the value or the show-off effect that we require, just simple and plain history.

I don't know about Swedish fashions, but I have seen many paintings of women in the 1830s wearing dresses with wide shoulders, wide skirt,s and narrow waists cinched with wide, buckled belts. Here are examples from Wikipedia:

Indeed - but they are nobility. My piece is contryside - farmers wife.
I guess that was what my swedish frinds ment by not likely.
but you are right - that was also my idea when I bought.

The plainess of the buckle makes me think it could be a buckle for some sort of shoulder belt? Neat item!

yes that is a good idea. Better than hat or shoes. Much better. Also the fact that it is sharp and the mechanism is able to stick.

There used to be some sort of strap that nursing mothers wore to support their breasts. I've seen references to it but do not understand the exact mechanics. This might have been used for that purpose.
