Hi,

I have an old tea set that I could use help identifying.

The only marks on the set are STERLING 950 and J9619 scribed on the bottom. Please see attached picture.

If any one can give info. of maker I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Hi,
I'll try shooting in the dark. "STERLING 950" is just screaming Japan. I'm not an expert, but every piece I've seen marked like that is Japanese. The Japanese goverment decreed an offical mark in 1928, but I've never seen one (?). Most of the post WW2 (1945) items I've seen are "sterling 925", the international standard. Would the maker be C.P.O. in a diamond? They were a prolific marker in Japan. The number scratched in the bottom: if it's on all the pieces it's usually an inventory/stock number, if it's just on one piece, it's possibly a repair number. Please repost your pictures, I'd like to see it. Or, the verbiage on the pieces.
