Hi,

I am writing from Finland and I have been collecting silver objects for a few years (mainly for usage).

I have a tankard with a mark of 'L&C?' which origin (country, when it might have been made and maker) I would be interested to know. Attached couple of pictures:

Regards,
Juhana

According to 'The Makers of Indian Colonial Silver' by Wynyard Wilkinson p.118-119 your mug is made by LOWE & Co. of Mount Road, Madras, India 1843-1870.
The end of the mark is actually a small o (the o of Co. for Company) with a line beneath it and two dots beneath the line.
He illustrates a childs' mug with very similar chasing.
Hope this helps smile

That's a beautiful little tancard. I always seem to be impressed by Indian silver.
