Hello.

It's been a while since I've posted and I hope everyone is doing well. Since my last post, I've started branching out on my collecting and have bought some great European sterling. I have found good reference material on Denmark, Norway, English, and fair material on German sterling. However, French references seem to be hard to come buy. Does anyone know of a good site or good print media for French Sterling makers? Any help will be appreciated.

Now for the French piece I've acquired. It is 950 Sterling (Minerva 1) and crystal and stands at 7". It is some sort of pitcher and I'm sure someone will tell me exactly what it's use is. My problem is that I cannot ID the maker. Can anyone help me here? Thanks and I hope you enjoy the photos!

Shane

Well, you can try the French Ministry of Culture's website to look up the initials in your mark. I've had about a 50% success rate when using this site to identify makers' marks.

I would probably consider it a claret jug -- it would certainly look beautiful with a nice red wine in it, anyway. Nice piece, and if you can post a phot of the marks someone here might recognize it.

Thank you very much for the ID. I had not had time to check out the site but I have bookmarked it for future reference.
