Everyone has been so helpful on the 8 crossed arrows, maybe we can figure out what these are? This pair of scissors has what looks to be a winged horse or griffin mark on them (I'm sorry I haven't got a good picture of it). They are marked "sterling", "5164", "Germany" and "25" no other marks that I can find.

Any input you may have would be wonderful!

Thanks in advance!!

Hello Dan, it would be helpful to know where the markings appear on your scissors. Does it look as though the handles might be sterling and the blade end made of some other material? I don't have sewing scissors but my grape shears are sterling handled with silver plated steel blades.

There is a company called Silberstein that worked in NYCity in the early 1900's. Their symbol was a winged griffon. They made sterling silver cutlery and also imported cutlery. If the word Germany appears on the lower portion of the shears, perhaps only the blades were imported and the scissors made here.

Thanks! I'll look at them closely this weekend and tell you where the marks are... but if memory serves me correctly, they are sterling handles and steel scissors the markings are all in the handles
