I recently acquired a solid silver teacup and saucer (removable brass insulating liner for the cup; gilded or electroplated gold inside the brass liner; both silver pieces hallmarked). The style is quite elegant, and looks French-inspired.

I have studied thoroughly all my books on international hallmarks and standards (OLD SILVER AND OLD SHEFFIELD PLATE by Okie, INTERNATIONAL HALLMARKS ON SILVER collected by Tardy, OLD SILVER ENGLISH AMERICAN FOREIGN by Wyler) and there are no references to any country producing silver with the silver content imprinted on both the cup and saucer: it seems to be 816/000 but due to the confusing arrangements of the marks, it could also be 000/918, depending on which way one looks at it. I suspect it is 816/000.

If anyone recognizes this and can tell me which country it comes from, I would be most grateful.

I would also appreciate a recommendation re more thorough books on international silver marks. It is very pretty and I would like to know the name of the style and country so I can search for more, hopefully of the same age so it will share the gorgeous patina of my cup.

Thank you.
