To all members at this forum.

The silver work what I'm collecting is mainly from Norway.

In this new topic I want to ask some details about the Norwegian silversmith Brødrene Lohne. I find out that he worked in Bergen from second half of the 19th century till the beginning of the 20th century. The official years I can't find anywhere. Some of his silver work I show with some photo's.

I know that related family is still has a factory in Bergen, also like Theodor Olsen. There are a few names which I have found at other silver pieces like J.Tostrup (Oslo) M.Olsen (Bergen?), G.Aase, M.Aase, L.H.Aase and M.Hammer.
Bergen had the most important silver gild from Norway.(in the 17th century). I wonder why there is so little knowledge to find, about all these names I try to find out.

Not in library and even the bookshop couldn't order a Norwegian silver book.(it's impossible they say).

I know that the 830 S mark which I can find at each piece means 830/1000 percentage of silver.
This percentage is used in production until plm.1920. The silver work which is made by Theodor Olsen has a modern look, for the time it's produced. I see some modern silver factories still make silver models from formerly. For instance the model "Rose" is still very popular.

I tried a lot of hours to find the model of Brødrene Lohne, I also couldn't find the name of this model.
The serving spoons are 8 and 10 inches long, the cream spoon about 6.5 inches and at the back stands the marks Br.Lohne and 830 S.

The dinner fork is 8 inches long, the dessert-spoon is 6,5 inches long and at the back standing the marks (fork: Br. Lohne and 830 S and at the spoon 830 S, Lo and NM.

I hope that there is somebody who can give me any information about this subject/silver work from Brødrene Lohne.

Greetings Silverhunter.

some photo's about silver work from Brødrene Lohne from Norway are included.

Suspect that blakstone can enlighten further, but so far as I know, Brødrene Lohne (translates to Lohne Brothers) was founded in 1921 by Alf and Johan Lohne. If I recall correctly, Johan also had a connection with Theodor Olsens and also Georg Jensen in Denmark. Br. Lohne was still in business a few years ago and may still be. .830 fineness silver is still used by some Norwegian makers, though .925 is more common now, and the NM is for Norsk Mønster (Norwegian pattern).

Thanks a lot for your reaction Dragonflywink, I've learned again, like the meaning of the word brødrene.
I didn't knew that there was connection with Theodor Olsens and Georg Jensen.
Perhaps the silverwork is made like a danisch model, because I couldn't find it till now. With a lot of houres research (without book/s), I just know a little of the puzzle. J.Tostrup was also a important person he delivered silverwork for the norwegian royal court jeweler(there is a article about that),I think you will now that.
Some time ago you had conversation with some other members about the subject M.Aase.
at the forum. I read also this topic for a few months ago after I started collecting Norwegian Silverwork. It's difficult because (I think) in europa they didn't gave a lot of attention to the scandinavian art of silverwork(I can be wrong about that). It should be good when musea sometimes show silverwork made by other countries, also various periods. Perhaps they do, but in the neighbourhood they have only one museum for only dutch silverwork.
I think each kind of silvercollection gives a lot of time about knowing everything about it. This forum helps a lot, but it can be possible that about some subjects there is no answer for it. For instance
at one of my silverpieces stands the silvermark TO, the shape is about the same which is dated (engraved with dots) in the year 1870. TO mark can be the father of Theodor Olsens but that is also hard to find out. Perhaps some day I send a letter to Theodor Olsens Eftf in Bergen and kindly try to get any information by familyrelation in the past and the relation with Aasen.
All information I get I collect in a special map, for own use.
Enjoying to collect and learn about it, that's for sure, the pleasure of research.
I hope there are some members who will give their opinion if they recognize the model from the photo's.
At one fork of my little collection are also standing two name marks (through eachother) named M.Olsen and L.H. Aase.
I also want to find out M. Olsen because he made also other stylistic silverwork and not only Biedermeier silverwork.

Dragonflywink, thanks for all and have a nice weekend to you (and all around the world.
Silverhunter.

Silverhunter, I have nothing to add to Cheryl's information, but I can identify this pattern as "Kronestil", introduced by Brødrene Lohne in 1928.
