Hi,

I am trying to identify a silver mark. I believe it is sterling silver the mark has Hilton, 6-130-A, 54 oz, Nakazatc Japan, the number 74 is in a box.

Can you help?

Although it appears that you have given an excellent description, experience shows that often what a mark appears to be to one person can actually be something entirely different. Posting a picture would be a great help to us all!

I believe the "Nakazatc Japan" is more likely to be "Nakazato Japan". Nakazato is the name of a Japanese company that makes silverplated tableware. I'm not sure whether they make things of solid silver. The other markings on the bottom of your item suggest that it is silverplated rather than silver as well.

I agree with Kimo: your piece definitely sounds like silverplate. With "Hilton" being among the marks, it sounds like this could be a piece of hotel silverplate.

I don't have much experience with Japanese silverplate, but...

6-130-A is probably just the model or stock number. 74 may be another one of these, or the year of manufacture.

The 54 oz. is probably the capacity of your piece or perhaps some kind of indication of silverplate grade. By the way, what type of piece is it? A dish? Tureen? Something else?
