Hello,

That my very first time here. I'm from Belgium and I'm a French speaker, so I won't say "excuse my French" but "excuse my English".

I only read here an old topic about these Christofle bottle openers "medallion" and I would like to know more about it.

I own 2, found at auction one with Napoleon and one with the Belgian motto "L'union fait la force" and Belgian "armes" (a crowned lion). I realized there is some other ones (paquebot "Le France", Concorde, Brussels 1958 exhibition etc.) and I sent a mail to Christofle about it, but they told me there is no list of the all collection because this model of bottle openers was subject of "special orders".

I'll be glad if we can share here information about those bottle openers in the way to make a list and it will be great if some of you have additional info like:

  • production years.
  • original sale price (I mean how much was it for one when there were sold in the stores)
  • which ones are "rare" or "common"

    ...

Thanks for your help.

I just found a few photo's and of course I don't have these one's myself, but I hope you recognize them. There is also one of the big boss himself. I wonder how many different patterns there will be made by them. It's a good item to collect. Enjoy yours!

At my hunting I've found a opener.

The mask motifs related from the museum of primitive Art New York and the British museum. At one side is showed a African stylistic head at the other side belong the rim is a decoration of alligators.

Capitaine Haddock (are you also a fan of Tintin?),
I have a 2001 Christofle catalog that had been discarded by the store for which I used to work. It features the Napoleon medallion bottle opener. So the Napoleon bottle opener was still being made as of 2001, and I suspect this product is still in production today as it must be a popular gift item. The catalogue does not picture any other medallion bottle openers.

Yes, I'm a Tintin fan (and I'm from Belgium).
Thanks for the tip about the Napoleon's one. Any clue about what was the retail price, just to make me happy to get one for 10 euros...
So, it looks like the "Napoleon" one is the only "official" one. Beside this one, I have the Belgian motto one but I have seen like 5 or 6 other ones... and every month I discover an other: american eagle, Tahiti islands... hard to figure how many kinds existed...

We don't really give value information here, and in any event, the price list from my catalog is missing. However, Christofle giftware, even silver plate, is expensive to buy new, so I'd say 10 euros was certainly a good price.

If you want to know exactly, I would call your local Christofle supplier and ask for the current retail price of the Napoleon bottle opener (I have done this in the past with the Christofle store here and they were nice about it).

I just read somewhere online that Christofle is making some silver plate things in Thailand now. Is this true?
