Can you tell me what is Australian silver. I have spoons with "australian silver" written on them at the back together with hallmarks. I believe they are quite old, they come from my husbands family. IP: Logged |

Around the late 19c a lot of product came out using new alloys with names like Nevada silver, German silver etc. None of this stuff is solid silver. Photos of the marks would help. IP: Logged |

As an Australian, I feel oblidged to note that we stamped our Sterling usually either "Sterling Silver" or "StSilver". Waylander IP: Logged |

Thank you for your reply to my message Waylander, but it says clearly on the back of the spoons Australian Silver. I will ask my mother in law as we got them from her if she knows more about it Regards IP: Logged |

Rowland, you mentioned that there are other hallmarks on the spoons. Can you describe them or better still post a photo? By the way a lot of Australian silver bears the hallmark STG.SIL IP: Logged |
