In one of the few books about dutch silver, called "groninger zilver" is the title of this book the name of a little province in the north of the Netherlands. When I looked in the book a found special named spoons like the title of the topic : "Pig spoons". Reason of the name is that from the 18th century (starting around 1730?) on special cattle-markets a price was to win by the local farmer who had the heaviest pig showed at the cattle-market. The spoons has nice patterns, a pig engraved, the short notice of the quantity of pounds (mostly more than 400 pound (no snip please)the pig weighted and also engraved with the farmers name, name of the village and mention the year the price-spoon was given. If there is interest I can soon make some copies of these kind of spoons. IP: Logged

silverhunter Posts: 704 Registered: Jul 2007	posted 04-23-2008 03:30 AM Hi Marc, The book is called like a wrote: "Groninger Zilver", made in 1975 and gives information about the exposition about Groninger (province in the north of Holland) silver. The exposition was held from 19 April until 19 may 1975.The books count 160 pages and inside from page 27-149 several black/white photo's are showed. Page 3-24 gives a lot of information. Last 5 pages considering documentation about historical facts. I can make some copies if you are interested I send it to you. Perhaps there is a possibility to give address to the SMP? The book is written by W.A. Hofman and J.H. Leopold. IP: Logged
