I have a silver covered cigar box, probably Dutch but may be Sumatran (as it would have been from the age it should be ) and I can see what I think is a hallmark of D D 90

Does anyone recognize this ??

Hello to you,

A short reaction of this side is that I also have some dutch pieces with the same DD 90 mark on it. On these pieces are stamped a kind of fish. The date of these pieces, they were bought by a family around 1920-1930 in a jeweler shop in Amsterdam. It was bought in a period the economy didn't succeed very well, so if people bought silverplate pieces it was rather expensive in these days. I doubt about if the letters DD could stand for the quality indication like E.P.N.S. used also a letter for their quality. (A or A1).

I hope you can post a photo of your cigar box than we can see the pattern.

Can you tell us what you collect for instance: items or from which countries?

Bon de succes!
Salue Andre

Welcome to the forum Rosemary.

Could you please take a moment and re-read the forum's directions in the yellow box above and then add the information to your posting?

There are so many markings that are similar that it is not possible to provide any accurate information from just a verbal description - some clear photos are absolutely necessary - of the overall object and of all of the markings. The instructions will walk you through the process on how to post them to your question.

Also, we are just a small group of people who enjoy collecting and studying silver and photos allow us to share in your appreciation of your silver. And, since we are just a small group of aficionados and students of silver we ask that you introduce yourself to the group by letting us know in a sentence to two what your collecting interests are and why you are interested in learning more about your box. Is it part of your collection or did you inherit it or are you doing research to sell it?

Thanks!
