Another two favorite pieces are this fork and spoon set. The fork came in the our first collection a couple of years ago, so I was very pleased when a matching spoon came in this last bit. (ref: More Norwegian Silver - Question about mark)

Close up:

These were obviously for my husband's uncle whose name was Richard. Based on the design on the front, would these have been a baby gift? (My husband think that looks like a stork. However, these are about 7 inches long.)

I am familiar with the silver maker O Domaas and have several of those pieces in the collection. However, I can't find anything about an "F. Domaas" - anyone familiar with this maker?

Thanks in advance for thoughts and advice!

Hi Elisabeth - F. Domaas would be the retailer, the conjoined 'KH' w/7 dots is the maker's mark, Kristian Hestenes of Bergen (in business 1904-64). The pattern is one of my favorites, Ibis, designed by Theodor Engebøe and introduced in 1921 - so pretty...

Cheryl - Thank you! This is wonderful to know. Richard was born in 1919, so the fact that the design wasn't introduced until two years later says it wasn't a baby gift. This helps a lot!

Thank you for sharing, it's a lovely pattern that is so elegant but not like any English or American ones.
A thought, if it had been a stork then it might have been a baby set but an Ibis... more like Cleopatra and Valentines associations...

Cheryl, thanks for the identification - I have a set of 6 of these, too - I hadn't been able to decipher the conjoined letters before.

It is a beautiful design, but unless the bird is an entirely fanciful one, it is unlike any Ibis I know of. If the designer saw one of these birds in a zoo, he read the wrong label, because, other than the exaggerated hump (they do hunch over when feeding), it is a pretty accurate depiction of a Demoiselle Crane - Enter the name in Google Images, and you will see many photos of one of the most beautiful and graceful of Eurasian birds.
