While admiring the beautiful work on some European enamel souvenir spoons, most aren't of great interest to me unless they fall into my particular collecting groups. However, there are some exceptions, like my German-made enamel Egyptian souvenir with a little mummy inside a hinged sarcophagus, and have wanted an 'Iron Maiden' spoon, with hinged doors revealing inner spikes, for some time - so recently picked up a small lot of late 19th-early 20th century spoons that included a Nuremberg (Nürnberg) Iron Maiden spoon with a nicely enameled bowl showing the Schöner Brunnen, a Gothic fountain in the market square. Also included was another piece on my wish list, a German-made Pompeii 'vase' spoon, with a figural enameled vase as the finial, and the bowl showing a segment of the putti frieze at the Casa dei Vettii; and a Venetian spoon with the Lion of St. Mark in the bowl, with tiny gold-foil stars scattered under the enamel. There was also an Italian made spoon with topped with the crowned gryphon segreant of Purugia, the bust of a harpy above the bowl showing the Fontana Maggiore, the 13th century fountain in the city's main square.

Oh man!, or oh woman that iron Maiden spoon is just too much! I love that that would qualify as souvenir spoon not as the door prize at the annual S+M awards dinner, those Germans, got to love em!
Thank you for sharing.
