I'm trying to identify the following marks:

the initials "ja"
a lion on all fours facing left
a face with a crown on (kings head or maybe jester's head?)
a cameo-type sillouhoette of a man's head with a wig (pony tail) facing right
a letter f or perhaps £ (pound sterling) sign

they are stamped in a row around the rim of a large Gold-coloured object. I say gold coloured because if it is actual gold it's probably very valuable, but I can't believe it would have been left in an old box in a cellar (where I've just found it during a clear-out).

I have no idea as to what it could be made of or its age. Do these hallmarks make any sense to anyone?

Perrhaps you can shed some light on this mystery...?

Is the final letter you mention a capital F?
If so, the marks are sterling hallmarks for London, 1801-1802 and the JA is for the maker Jonathan Alleine, entered to the Guild in 1777-1778. If the mark is a lower case f, then it dates from 1821-1822. This is less likely, as the London mark changed from the crowned leopard's head to an uncrowned one that year, though still possible. There was a certain amount of transition time when marks were changed and the process seldom coincided exactly with the beginning of a new year cycle. I do not see a maker of that era using JA (though Alleine might just have still been working at the end of a very long career).
