Audrey Goffin unregistered	posted 01-10-2001 04:58 PM Don't forget to visit the "markets", which are always fun. Watch out for reproductions, but there are always lots of goodies to buy. Portobello Road, Saturday only, all day. Be sure to go inside the various arcades, which go way back from the street with lots of dealers who take "stalls" for the day. My personal favorite. Some very good dealers have stalls there. Camden Passage, in the Islington area of London. Wednesday, some dealers are there Saturday also, and some shops are open all week; A small area with quite a few shops and dealers. Covent Garden: The antique market is open on Monday only, and it's fun to go there because there are lots of other shops and restaurants. It's mostly all indoors, so weather is not important. Bermondsey market: Fridays only, the earlier the better, closes about noon. This is legendary, but some say it has gone downhill recently. A lot of the dealers who show there go to the other markets, also. It takes a lot of effort to get there (especially so early) and I'm not so sure it's worth the effort. But good buys can be found. WGS Posts: 136 Registered: Oct 99	posted 01-17-2001 09:55 PM Thanks for the information. We did get to visit several shops in addition to the Silver Vaults. Unwittingly, we arrived at the Silver Vaults at just about 1:00 which is closing time on Saturdays. Fortunately we were able to try again on Tuesday. That was a much more opportune visit, because many of the silver shops are closed completely all day on Saturdays. ------------------ IP: Logged
