I have just acquired a presentation case in black that was issued by Goldsmiths Silversmiths Company Ltd. London, that contains a plate, teaspoon, dinnerspoon, knife, fork, napkin ring, small sipping cup and what I could describe as a small 2-handled serving cup. Dated 1903/4 and all Sterling. Is there a specific name for a case of this kind of presentation?

I took a look at a catalog we have from The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company Ltd. and found the following christening set which sounds similar. The catalog is not dated but there is a photo of desk set calender with the date of 1917.

Thanks Scott,
What would be the object of the set with the cutlery?

A first placesetting for the child of a well-healed family. The small sipping cup is actually for soft boiled eggs. The larger is for porridge or other hot cereal.

(Gee, all I got was melmac and half a chop-stick set. . .)

Thanks for the quick reply...... I guess some people had all the luck. I'll have to get out that plastick 'Snoopy' cutlery to pass on to my off-spring.

Cheers,
Mark

Yours is a very complete and beautiful "Christening" set, but not the biggest, believe it or not. The most elaborate one I have seen had two of everything, plus a small chafing dish to keep baby's food warm. It may have been intended for twins!
Katherine Morrison McClinton's book on 19th century silver shows a catalog illustration of a set with the baby food warmer.
