Waylander Posts: 131 Registered: Sep 2004	posted 10-07-2004 08:46 AM This is a puzzling one for me; a friend of mine has a spoon with the following markings: q in circle ? lion passant (?) in hexagonal shield WHH surmounted by an anchor in a square shield I'm not sure if it is English or not. Patrick Vyvyan Posts: 640 Registered: May 2003	posted 10-08-2004 07:13 AM Here is Waylander's mark: The lion with number 2 indicates Dutch 83.3% silver while the letter "q" is the date letter for 1875. But I'm afraid I don't know the maker. IP: Logged

Between 1814 and 1953 there are two standards of silver used in Holland - .934 purity which has a rempant lion (standing on his two back legs) and a 1 in front of him AND .833 which is the lion passant shown here, with a 2 under his feet.
