Hi there,

I would like to know if sterling silver with York town hallmarks carries a premium over an identical piece with London hallmarks?

Thanks for your help.

Marc

I noticed that no one had replied to your message, so I thought I would simply inform you that this forum is not for valuations. Making a comparison between pieces from one locale to another is a form of valuation, even if it doesn't ask for a specific price, and may be the reason that you were not answered.

Value is a matter of who is willing to pay what for an item. There are collectors who prefer silver made in one locale, and to them, that silver has far more value. Others prefer other locales.

If you collect silver, collect what you love and leave value for the time when your collection is dispersed to your heirs, or for insurance purposes only. And for that, a qualified appraiser will have to be haired, in any event. wink
