Hello listers,

I'm hoping someone can help me to decipher these marks.

I purchased this needle case in London in November 2004. The marks, as far as I can read them, are "[]& St[]" and then Birmingham, the standard mark, and the year letter, a lower-case "u". Having looked on the internet (my only resource as this is my only piece of antique silver) I determined the city, but is the order of the city mark and the standard mark of any importance? Would the year mark indicate 1818/19? And can anyone work out who the maker might have been?

Any help GREATLY appreciated!!!

Hi Prue,

Looks like Birmingham 1919/20 to me. Can't make out the makers mark.

Yes, Birmingham 1919/20. The maker's mark is probably V&StJ which I have seen on another piece from this period. Unfortunately I can't identify the maker for you.
