Can anyone describe the hallmark Alwyn Carr used after the end of his partnership with Omar Ramsden?
Thank you

Just curious about your interest as I am a fan of Ramsden/Carr, their work is always the best!?

Yes I agree their work is beautiful, although I haven't been fortunate enough to see many pieces yet (besides photographs in books and on the internet). My collecting started in Georgian silver, but I am becoming increasingly more interested in 20th century silver.

Sorry I don't know Carrs mark but I have seen a fair bit of Ramsden/Carrs work and they really got the post art nouveau arts and craft style. What drew me to them first was the most beautiful technique. Their work is the height of hand made!
20 years ago Grt. St. Bartholemews church,Smithfield, London had a wonderful alter set, 5ft floor candle sticks, Cross etc.

I think Carr was the maker and Ramsden was the business side of the team.

Have you seen Rabinavitches book on collecting contemporary silver?

The only mark I've seen illustrated for Alwyn Carr is of his initials (AC) in black letter capitals (old English ) within a shaped shield.
For an example of black letter see the London date letter sequence beginning 1836. His mark is shown in "Treasures of the 20th Century"

Thank you for the replies. Sorry for my delayed reply, I have been travelling. I assume you mean the date letter cycle starting in 1836? I will look out for the books mentioned.

Oops - yes! That London cycle does start in 1836. It's Birmingham that begins a black letter cycle in 1824.
