I have a set of six tee spoons which where made in London 1809-10. I was interested to find out the maker with the mark R.T.

It's hard to be certain, as I can't make out all the details from the photo, but most likely Richard Turner, who was first entered as a smallworker in 1801, then as a spoonmaker, first in partnership with John Shea (1808), then on his own (1809). At that time he was working at 31 St. John's Square (information from Grimwade's London Goldsmiths). Grimwade shows a pellet-less mark, but notes that one with a pellet between the R and T, as this appears to have, was entered in 1809.

Thanks for the quick reply with excellent information (it could have not been more than 10 min).

Yes there is a pellet between the letters so the maker is Richard Turner. Interesting that he changed a little his mark in year 1809.

Juhana

Excuse my being pedantic, but these are "tea" nto "tee" spoons, so called because they are used to stir tea.

Just bend the shaft at a 90 degree below the bowl and stick the shaft into the ground. Then you will have had a 'sterling' round of golf.
