Our regular contributing mimber, PhilO, who has been collecting and photographing maker's marks for some years, has just established a website, Makers' Marks on British Silver to generously share this information. It shows photographs of many marks registered at the major assay offices, and should be a great help to those without their own references, as well as those who prefer to see photographs rather than drawn marks. Although already extensive, as with most projects of this sort, it is a work in progress. Note his caveat at the bottom of the home page - some of these identifications are attributions only, and therefore tentative; he welcomes corrections, emendations, and contributions of marks he has not come across himself. He should be contacted by contributors directly through his web site. I am sure his efforts will be much appreciated. IP: Logged |

1. Public Silver Forums (open Free membership) - anyone with a valid e-mail address may register. Once you have received your Silver Salon Forum password, and then if you abide by the Silver Salon Forum Guidelines, you may start a thread or post a reply in the New Members' Forum. Private Silver Salon Forums (invitational or $ donation membership) - The Private Silver Salon Forums require registration and special authorization to view, search, start a thread or to post a reply. Administrative/Special Private Forums (special membership required) - These forums are reserved for special subjects or administrative discussion.
