Other than the date letter crossing to 1817, these tongs are a mystery to me. Any elucidation would be very welcome.

The marks purport to be Exeter, and Georgian - but the tongs look late 19th early 20th Century. They may be an advanced design for their time, or improperly marked much later.

Clive, thank you for the response. It's always difficult for me to imagine silver pieces being adulteraed much with little to be gained, but strange things happen.

Agphile, Welch's W's seem bolder and better formed, but maybe my mark was done when the punch was beginning to wear out, or this is just another punch as you say. At any rate thank you for the information. It is a big plus for me to know the date and location.
