The piece was made in Glasgow in 1875. The Lion rearing is the city mark, the soverign's head duty mark is that of Queen Victoria. The women holding the scepter is the Britannia mark indicating your piece is .958 pure silver as opposed to the usual .925 sterling. I cannot make out the maker's mark, but it is a lovely piece.

By the way, since this is your first post, welcome to the forum. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your interest in silver?

Thanks,
Tom

Sorry, there is no lion rampant; it is a lion's head erased, which is the London mark which accompanies the standard mark for Britannia Silver, the higher grade than Sterling. The caster was made in London in 1880-1881.

When the Britannia Standard was instituted in other assay offices (notably Newcastle and York) the same marks were used as in London, but the city mark otherwise used at each office on Sterling silver was added.
