Hi,

This is driving me mad!I found an usual little what I think is a pepper shaker, it is one and a half inches tall the shaker is oval with three small balls set apart on the bottom with a flat circle underneath.

It has marked underneath WH,MP with A underneath in a shield, also .08.I think it must be another metal with silver coated over the top because of the .08?

Any help would be appreciated as I love it so much and would like to know if all items marked with .08 means that it is perhaps silver plated?

Hi Tom,

Yeah I thought I would probably have to post a picture, I understand it is difficult without seeing it, I will give it a go.

Thanks.

Hi,

I hope these photos are okay?

I know it is nothing special but I hope someone can tell me something about it as I am intrigued by it and have a limited amount of knowledge so any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

That might be one of the many silverplate marks used by William Hutton & Sons, Sheffield & London, England. They sometimes used just the WH in an oval mark.

Regards,
Pat.

Thanks for the help.So I have found a date of 1843-1900 for William Hutton & Sons but It dos'nt look as if the style is that old to me,unless I'm missing something with the dates because I'm not finding that much. And the MPA either. But because it is silver plate I will try other sites.Thanks.

I have found that the bun feet seem to be quite a regular feature on William Hutton & Sons designs in the later period.I think around 1899 to the 1920's,so I think it it must be the maker but still not sure as to the date.

William Hutton & Sons was taken over by James Dixon & Sons in 1930, but I believe continues to do business under their own name up to the present day.

Can't help you with a date on the marks.

Pat.
