Are you sure it is 1876? The hallmarks look much more like 1936 to my eye. Can you post an overall photo so we can see your nice salt. The overall form should help confirm the date.

Hi there CJ,

The mark is indeed that for London 1936. The marks for 1876 would include a duty mark, in this case a bust of Queen Victoria's head. Also, the shape of the cartouche around the "A" would be different. Details count. Hope this helps. Marc

Scroll up on this (or any) page to where you see the hotlink 'Please Read Before You Post' in the bright green box, then look slightly above and to the right. You will see a hotlink that says 'Silver Library'. This will take you to a veritable treasure chest of excellent advice on books on silver - which ones are the best ones, what they cover, which are recommended as the first ones in a collector's library and which may be better for people who have specialized, etc.

I do not know Tiffany silver so I am unable to tell you the name of the pattern of your cute little salt, but the design supports it being from the mid to late 1930s rather than the Victorian era. While I would not say it is serious deco, I see it as having a mild deco element in the three legs each having the three lobes at their tops. One aspect of deco in addition to the typical streamlining, elongation, movement, and architectural structure which are not overly evident in this squat shaped salt is you also often find groupings of three lines or layers in the design.
