Hello,

I have a pair of picture frames with the following markings on them:
"HP' anchor lion lower-case "i" and a man standing (?).

Can anyone help me identify and date these frames?

Thank you in advance.

The anchor indicates that the piece was made in Birmingham. The small "i" should be set in some kind of shield or geometeric shape. What is the shape? That is necessary to help get the date it was made.

The lower-case "i" is in a square.

I've checked a couple different sources, all of which agree that the date letter mark (the "i" in the shield}indicates the pieces were made in 1908-9. The mark to the left is too unclear to read, and I am stumped by the figure to the right of the date letter. Its placement suggest that it is a maker's mark.
Good luck.

Thanks for the information!
Does anyone know where I can find out how much the pair is worth?

This forum doesn't get into the specifics of valuations - in part because values vary widely and are misleading.
However you can get a general idea by watching out for similar items on internet auction sites such as e-bay. You can seek the advice of dealers in your area (remembering they will offer much less than they will sell for)and for purposes such as probate and tax, there are professional appraisers (some with more specialised knowledge than others).
