Hi everyone

I have not had anything of interest to show and tell or ask about until this week. Now I have a few lovely old items....

This is a bone and silver rattle/spoon. It is 6 3/4" long and the hallmark is all but gone. I was hoping that someone might recognize what was left of the maker's mark. I can see a W. then it is possibly either a B or an E. The rest is just too worn to even hazard a guess at.

Does anyone recognize this type of implement? Any guess of mine for age would be just that, so any bit of info would be wonderful.

Fingers crossed I get this on first go...

Many thanks
Sue

Sue - From the colour, it looks as though your spoon is made of horn rather than bone.
Horn is fairly easily moulded, somewhat translucent. Could well be Scottish, and likely only with the maker's mark originally.

Of Course! Yes, this would be horn not bone. I do think it had a full hallmark once as the outside edges are just visible at the top. Many thanks for the Scottish notion, I will look through my very sparse book and see if I can find a maker
