I have just recently purchased a locket from an antique dealer, She said it was from 1940, I have done some more research on the hallmarks on the back, they are English and there are three of them; a lion, a crown (I think) and a letter B (capitol).

Please if you have any more info that would be great....

This response contains a big "IF" which can only really be cleared up by seeing a picture of the marks. However, IF this is definitely an English piece (lion passant), then it sounds like a Sheffield assay office mark (crown). Sheffield used an upper case (capital) B in 1944 and 1969. The cartouches are the same (5-sided with bevelled top corners and angled downwards to a point), but the 1969 B has a flourish from the top while the 1944 B is plainer.

Thanks that really clears things up, because the dealer dated it back to the 40'd but was not sure.

Thanks for your help.
