Came across these marks on a (supposedly) English piece of flatware, though the marks are clearly not. They don't look like any of the common New York marks either--any suggestions?

Can anyone refer me to the book on American psuedo hallmarks, I've lost the reference, thanks...

I believe these are English silverplaters marks, probably toward the end of the 19c. I'm sure there are others on this forum that can pin them down more precisely.

Although not an exact match for the one shown in Mappin's EPNS & OSP book, there are similarities to the mark given for Joseph Wilmore, Birmingham, with date given of 1807. Not only are the initials right, but he used that funny mark that looks like a ccross on a triangle. This may be a later mark of his, perhaps on EP rather than Old Sheffield Plate.

PS: it's John R. McGrew, Manufacturers' Marks on American Coin Silver.

'BP' is a fairly typical mark for Brittania Plate: ie plated on brittania metal. Which would date this 1845 to 1900, more or less. What sort of piece is it on? It was at one point a practice to make the everyday items out of silver and the less used ones plate.
