After wanting an example for 20 years or so, I finally found a terrific example from a dealer in the U.K.

This was an example worth waiting for! Heavy at 77 grams and totally original condition and a patina to die for! smile

It was made by Henry Greene, London, 1705.
Nice hallmarks and a great crest which I found to be of the Wombell family.

The day it arrived, I took it to my friend's coin shop and he let me scan it. I will post the results. I scanned the crest area. Pretty accurate for the time if you ask me...
Britannia standard, and the bowl is in perfect shape, no loss of metal and never worked on. A terrific example!

What a great fine.

Your analysis machine has the numbers 95.66 and .46 for silver. Is the .46 the plus or minus margin of error number?

Mr. Henry Greene would be surprised that an analysis of his spoon was performed some 314 years after he made it.

Indeed the technology today is insane compared to then...

Unfortunately I don't really know what that second column means. frown

I don't really know what that second column means

  1. column = Element
  2. column = Overall Percentage of element found
  3. column = +/- percentage

The column is quite clearly labelled "±2σ" (plus or minus 2 sigma). This is a statistical standard for probable error where σ is the Standard Deviation. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_deviation.

Striking spoon! The read out makes me wonder when lead stopped being present in flatware or has it altogether?

The newer stuff you don't see lead, or gold...

Not sure exactly when though.
