The red or plum colored stoneware pitcher above is marked with the mark of Samuel Hollins. The silver rim has the mark of Thomas Radcliffe of London and is dated 1825.
Samuel Hollins was in business in Shelton, Staffordshire, from 1774 until his death in 1813.
As Mr. Hollins was dead when the rim was made in 1825, I believe this may be a good example of an early repair. I think silver rims were often used on drinking vessels, but I have not seen them on pitchers unless used to make a repair.
This pitcher was shown on a British Pottery discussion group and I thought it might be of interest to our members.
