VirginandChild

These two spoons have much rarer finials. On the left (with detail top right) is a Virgin and Heart, so called because it is believed to represent the Virgin Mary holding the Sacred Heart, by William Limpanny, London, 1612, 6.2 inches. This finial is usually found on smaller spoons down to child size.

On the right (with detail lower right) is a Child's Head, by Daniel Carey, London, 1620, 4.9 inches. This finial seems always to be found on child size spoons, which seems appropriate. It is probably meant to represent the Infant Jesus.
