It is a fish server used for serving fish, though of course one can always use flatware for whatever one wishes these days. smile

Thanks Kimo! I thought it might be but the straight handle threw me off. Any idea what the pattern is? It looks like "flora" but a little different.

Yes, it is Schiebler's "Flora" pattern that was first introduced in 1887 and expanded in subsequent years. This pattern has slightly different floral arrangements/patterns for the different categories of flatware. The one on your fish server is the one that you can also find on some knives in this pattern and represents clamatis flowers. Some forks, for example, have Easter lilies, and so on. I think that it is a very beautiful pattern especially since there is a variety of different floral designs within the pattern. By the way, another name for your server a "fish slice".

A fish server and not an ice-cream slice?

There is an extensive number of postings and description of the Flora pattern that was posted to the SMP Forum in 2008. The motif on your slice is #14 Clemantis. This is the link showing all the motifs. Shiebler's Floral Flatware, Part 1: Flora - post 1 of 7

Without an old catalog it is hard to determine the intended function of a piece. I am inclined to agree with Polly that this may actually be an ice cream knife or a cake knife.

My first thought was an ice cream knife.
Sweet piece!
